Driving national action to end violence against women and girls
I am supporting the Government’s new £13 million National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls—a major step forward in tackling abuse, rape, stalking, and child sexual exploitation. This new centre will bring together over 100 officers to improve how these crimes are investigated across all 43 police forces. I back stronger training, national coordination, and intelligence-led policing that puts victims at the centre. I am pushing for better support for survivors and real consequences for perpetrators. From domestic abuse experts in 999 control rooms to mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse, I am fighting for a system that protects women and girls—wherever they live.
BRF: Believe. React. Fast.
I am backing a powerful campaign led by my constituent, Pauline Jones, whose daughter Bethany Rae Fields was murdered by her ex-partner in 2019 after repeated pleas for help were ignored. The BRF campaign—Believe, React, Fast—calls for urgent reform in how police and services respond to domestic abuse and stalking. I have raised Bethany’s case in Prime Minister’s Questions, met with ministers, and pushed for faster, more serious action to protect women in danger. I support embedding domestic abuse experts in emergency call centres and stronger accountability for failures. I am working closely with Pauline to ensure Bethany’s story drives real change.
“Bethany’s murder should never have happened,” I say. “We must do more. We must act faster.”
